Malawi is a landlocked country in southeast Africa. Although it is the smallest country by area on the continent, Malawi epitomizes the unique charisma of Africa. Its charm is reflected in a rich variety of natural resources, beautiful landscapes, and Lake Malawi.

Today, we get to know more about the country as the Malawi Pavilion celebrates its National Pavilion Day at the 2010 Shanghai World Expo.

The culture of Malawi is rich with dances. Visitors to the Malawi Pavilion are welcomed by the traditional ritual dances performed by Malawian artists.

The Malawi Pavilion is located inside the Joint African Pavilion on its east side. The pavilion showcases the country's experience and solutions concerning urban regeneration, cultural presentation, economic transformations, and environmental changes as well as urban responsibilities.

Visitors to the Malawi Pavilion will find themselves surrounded by the country's marvelous scenery... blue sky and natural lakes - all of which are pristine and natural with lovely golden beaches. In fact, one fifth of the country's area is covered by water.

Talking about the country of Malawi, you can't miss Lake Malawi National Park. The park was listed on UNESCO's world heritage list in 1984 for its abundant variety of national resources.

The Lake Malawi is the third largest fresh lake in Africa. It covers an area of more than 30-thousand square kilometers, with an average depth of 273 meters. On display at the Malawi Pavilion is a colorful species of fish that have traveled thousands of miles from the Lake Malawi to Shanghai. The species is called cichlid. There are more than 750 various kinds of cichlids living the Lake Malawi. All of them are ornamental fishes.

Although Malawi is among the world's least developed nations, the Malawian people are known for their hospitality, hard work, and optimism.
