Two of China's abundant heritages are applying this year at the 34th World Heritage Convention. They are the Dan Xia landform and the Songshan Mountain located in central China's Henan Province.
First up, let's take a closer look at the Songshan Mountain, which is internationally known for its ancient architecture.
The age-old architectural complex, seated in the Songshan Mountain, has witnessed the fleeting passage of time from as early as the East Han Dynasty to the Qing Dynasty. The complex of ancient buildings are considered of great historical and aesthetic value, and reflect the origin of the splendid Chinese civilization.
The Songshan Mountain is located in the Dengfeng city of Henan. Around 13 kilometers southeast to the center of Dengfeng sits an ancient temple that is believed to have been built in 723 AD in the Tang Dynasty. A stone tablet inside the temple shows that the second son of King Wen of Zhou once came to the Songshan Mountain for a geological survey. And according to the results achieved by the measurement, the ancient people believed that the Songshan Mountain was in the center of Heaven and Earth, and the venue had thus become one of the most frequently visited places by numerous emperors of China over the past years.

Lv Hongjun, researcher, said, "There's a belief popular among the ancient Chinese that says Songshan Mountain is the center of the world. And this center boasts a definite supremacy compared to everything else. It is regarded as the origin of all creatures on the planet where the Yin meets the Yang. And this belief had glorified the Songshan Mountain and made it a sacred place for rituals and ceremonies."
Over the centuries the Songshan Mountain has constantly evolved with the times embracing various religions including Confucianism, Buddhism, and Taoism, resulting in an architectural complex of various styles.
Songshan Mountain also features the Shaolin Temple, home of Chinese Kungfu.
