Folk music instruments like the Guzheng and Pipa were popular among ancient Chinese scholars. They often served as channels of emotional expression when these intellectuals gathered in small groups to talk and drink.

Recently, a stunning group of over 1700 folk music fans from Daqing of Northeast China's Heilongjiang province played their instruments together, declaring their passion towards traditional Chinese music.

Such a large gathering of folk musicians is unprecedented in China or even around the world. The musicians were divided into five groups depending on the type of instrument they played.

One group was for the stringed instruments like Erhu and Yangqin. Another for flutes and one for percussion.
