Recently, The Museum of Hats has opened in Beijing. More than a decorative accessory, these hats reflect the changing history of Chinese culture.

This is an emperor's hat dating back to the Qing dynasty. It is round at the front with a shade made of 12 pearls. The hat symbolizes authority.

Hats were reserved as a prestigious items in ancient times with ordinary folks only wrapping their heads with cloth. And, it was not only during the Qing dynasty that this particular hat came into vogue. It's called the mellow-shaped hat.

Li Jiaqi, member of China Old Brand Names Assoc., said, "This hat from the Qing dynasty is becoming popular. It blocks the sun and keeps the ears warm. It gives the wearer a polite image."
