"Red Cliff" is one of the earliest Peking Opera works that the National Center for the Performing Arts ever presented. It's been performed over 50 times since its debut.
But this year, a special kids production has been scheduled with the entire cast formed by children between the age of 8 and 12.
After a two-month nation-wide audition process, 20 children have been selected to play the major roles in the production.
In order to cater to the children's taste, the storyline for this version of "Red Cliff" has been adapted. And leading roles, such as Zhuge Liang, will be jointly played by several actors.

These young performers all impressed the judges during their audition. Their stunning performances won enthusiastic applause. In fact, quite a few of them had previously won awards in amateur contests.
In the coming month, Peking Opera masters will join the lucky kids to help polish their singing and performing skills as well as familiarize them with the story and each character.
All the young performers are looking forward to joining the show.
By producing this production, the NCPA is exploring ways to acknowledge the role of children as it promotes traditional art.
And with the enthusiasm for Peking Opera among this group of young fans, such events are likely to be held on a regular basis in the future.
