The hometown of Chinese paper-cut, Yuxian county in Hebei province, is hosting the First Chinese Paper-cut Art Festival.
It's Chinese paper-cut's debut festival after being selected as one of the Masterpieces of Oral and Intangible Heritage of Humanity by UNESCO in 2009.
Hundreds of artists from 41 cities are displaying innovative designers in paper-cut. Although the designers belong to different schools of style, their works have a common characteristic, the extensive use of red and just a sprinkling of Chinese characters. These symbolize good luck, health, and Chinese Zodiac animals.
Yuxian county is the home of this Chinese folk art.
