Every year China produces a prolific portfolio of big-screen productions of various genres.
Apart from catering to the tastes of a domestic audience, what Chinese filmmakers want to know is how to broaden the international market and introduce Chinese films to a larger crowd overseas.
Taking on the challenge is the China Image Film Festival, the largest Chinese film festival in Europe. Organizers of the event held a press release Monday in Beijing, revealing the details of this year's event.
The China Image Film Festival was initiated in 2009. Now in its second year, the festival is scheduled to present a dozen Chinese big-screen productions, all of which are outstanding Chinese films produced in recent years. Together, they provide a panoramic view of the lifestyle of everyday people in China.

The entries this year cover a wide range of genres from art-house, commercials, and documentaries to short films. Some of the highlights are "The Founding of a Republic", "Walking to School", and "The Equation of Love and Death".
The film festival was designed to promote Chinese films to a larger audience in Europe, and aims to add fuel to the increasing cultural exchanges between China and Britain.
Kong Xiangxi, executive chairman of China Image Film Festival, said, "I think the importance of this China Image Film Festival lies in fully displaying the lifestyle of the Chinese people and Chinese culture, and introducing to the rest of the world what modern China is today."
Apart from movie screenings, the film festival will also feature movie forums to be joined by both professionals and amateurs in discussing the possibilities of Sino-UK collaboration in various fields of the movie industry.
The China Image Film Festival will be held in London from October the 3rd to the 10th.
