Also from the press conference, a senior official from China's State Administration of Radio, Film and Television said that it's not yet "appropriate" to introduce a film rating system on the Chinese mainland.

It's a long-debated issue whether or not to introduce a film rating system in China. Zhao Shi, the Deputy Director of China's State Administration of Radio, Film and Television said, theoretically, a film rating system ensures the demands of filmgoers of different groups or with different tastes are met, but in practice, no successful film rating system has been found.

She adds that it's difficult to prevent young people from going to cinemas or watching films online. Zhao also notes that China embraces innovation in its film management system and the current system is suitable to China's national conditions.
