Three maidens, all named "Kaka" and representing red, white and blue respectively, are unveiling their emotional experiences and discussing "love" with audience members in a stage drama called "Kaka's Platform." The very feminine play is now being staged at a mini theatre in Beijing.
The play is billed as the "first private drama of Chinese women." It's a tale of the three Kaka's journey of seeking, tasting, and losing love. The heroines in this play are not your typical obedient housewives or sweet and sheepish girlfriends. These women face the social pressure and emotional crisis courageously on their quest for a better life.
Tulle and curtains make up the stage setting, and multi-media elements bridge the acts.
The drama is the brainchild of three female directors. And it's actress-turned-director Li Xinling's first attempt at handling a stage drama.
Li Xinling said, "This play is very special. Our aim is to present a combination of film and drama. We try to catch the vibe of film and the format of drama and hope you can feel it."
Li's tutor is Guo Baochang, a prestigious veteran director. He gives recognition to Li and says the play is groundbreaking and refreshing.
Dispelling the grief and starting over. These are the tales of three modern maids, and perhaps a bit of therapy to urbanites everywhere.
