Chinese sculptor Yuan Xikun has been awarded the Supreme Medal of Culture and Art by the Ecuadorian government for his statue of General Eloy Alfaro, one of the greatest men in Ecuadorian history.

The statue was recently molded and is now on display in Beijing. Yuan has created over fifty statues of famous people. They are collected by governments, museums, and organizations all over the world.

Three of his statues have served as state gifts from China to other nations. Yuan has the unique honor of owning international medals such as the U.S.'s Presidential Medal of Honor, and others, more than any other Chinese artists.

Although his works are mainly about famous people, his next work is of an ordinary middle school principle.

He said he would feel the same inspiration and creative impulse as long as the model possesses a touching power and mind.
