Little Mermaid celebrates 97th birthday

The famous national emblem of Denmark, the Little Mermaid, is celebrating her 97th birthday. And the first birthday she has ever enjoyed overseas is at the Shanghai World Expo.

The Denmark Pavilion kicked off a three-day celebration on Saturday.

At ten o'clock that morning, with music by The Tivoli Boys Guard, the Commissioner General of Denmark Pavilion announced the official beginning of the birthday party.

The Statue of Little Mermaid was unveiled in Langelinie, Copenhagen on August 23rd 1913. Every year, local residents celebrate her birthday, and this year is no exception.

A series of commemorative activities were held. They included water performances, LEGO Dream Factory, a performance by The Tivoli Boys Guard, and children's theatre.

Visitors were invited to spend an unforgettable birthday with the Little Mermaid.
