"The Poppy Flower" still missing

08-24-2010 08:59 BJT

Egyptian authorities are still trying to locate a Van Gogh painting said to be worth 55-million US dollars, after it was stolen from a museum in Cairo.

Earlier reports that the painting, which the Culture Ministry identified as "The Poppy Flower," had been recovered were not true.

The museum is home to one of the Middle East's finest collections of 19th- and 20th-century art and includes works by other French impressionists including Gauguin, Monet, Manet, and Renoir.

Egypt's Culture Minister has earlier instructed security forces to take measures to ensure the painting won't leave the country.
