Student symphony orchestra founded in Shanghai

Shanghai has established its first student symphony orchestra with a founding ceremony and debut concert this week at the MISA Concert Hall of the Shanghai Summer Music Festival.

Initiated by the city's Education Committee, the student orchestra is Shanghai's first city-level ensemble. It consists of students from 39 schools including Fudan University, Shanghai Jiaotong University, Nanyang Model High School, and others.

The orchestra played selections of Chinese classical music like "Torch Festival" and "Moonlight on the Spring River" at the debut.

The debut performance showed the overall capability of the orchestra and won tremendous applause.

This orchestra will function as a cultural namecard of Shanghai as an cosmopolitan city. It will represent Shanghai at various culture and art exchange activities and competitions at home and abroad.
