The XinJiang Grape Festival is offering a feast for visitors' eyes with a show that takes place in a real desert---the first ever "desert show" in the world.

The show "Lou Lan Wonderland" is set in a desert scenic spot that is said to be the location of the ancient Lou Lan city in Xinjiang Uygur Autonomous Region. It depicts the life of a girl who lived there centuries ago, featuring costumes, settings and decorations all in authentic Uygur style. Camels, Mo Gao grotto wall-paintings and many other elements of ethnic Uygur culture are used to enhance the appeal of the surreal scene.

The city of Lou Lan is renowned both in China and across the globe as the Middle Kingdom's "Pompeii" desert. The show, which enlists more than 300 artists from around the country, is part of an effort of the annual Xinjiang Grape Festival to commemorate the ancient trade route of silk road.
