An Argentinean-Japanese couple won the Stage category of the Tango World Championships in Buenos Aires on Tuesday night. The event has become increasingly international, since its debut in 2002.

The winning couple of the Stage category of the Tango World Championships have performed their victory dance bringing the competition to a conclusion in Buenos Aires.

Argentinean Diego Ortega, aged just 21, and 42 year old Chizuko Kuwamoto of Japan represented, according to the jury, the perfect synthesis of those who hail - as the tango does - from the Rio de la Plata shores, and those who, despite coming from the most remote corners of the world have come to love the tango as if it were their own.

Kuwamoto speaks little Spanish and Ortega, who was born north of Buenos Aires but moved to Japan years ago, has not mastered the Japanese language fully, but the couple say that they understand each other perfectly when they dance.

They have been dancing partners for two years. In 2009 they also made it to the final.
