The Shanghai Expo has opened a window for the world to learn more about Chinese culture and art, with thousands of examples of porcelain, paintings, and calligraphy works on display.

Recently, some of those works have been made available to collectors through an auction.

The bids were taken at an auction house in Shanghai on Sunday. The nineteen works sold were all from the collection of the finest contemporary Chinese porcelain pieces created by artists from China's porcelain capital "Jingdezhen." Those works are top porcelain works from master class artists such as Ning Gang, Gong Xunming, and Fan Xinye. They were shown at the Expo during June.

Jiang Xinqu, principal of Expo "Jingdezhen" Porcelain show, said, "During the one-month show at the Expo, we met lots of porcelain artists, lovers and collectors from all over the world. So, we decided to put some works up for auction to further communicate with those friends."

During the two-hour auction, participants fully showed their enthusiasm for works they said integrated the traditional with modern skills necessary to demonstrate the beauty of porcelain making at its top level. Meanwhile, their display at the Expo imbued the works with even greater value, making them worth collecting.

A bidder said, "The Expo has given me the chance to see some works that I haven't seen before. And the auction provided the chance to get the two porcelain works I love."

In the end, seventeen works were sold for a total value of nearly 600,000 US dollars.
