Pingyao International Photography Festival is hailed as the Oscar in the field of photography for its worldwide reputation.

This year the Festival opened in the ancient section of the city of Pingyao in Shanxi Province.

Pingyao's old town provides photographers, residents, and tourists with a wonderfully photogenic world.

During the festival, Pingyao's old town, a UNESCO World Cultural Heritage Site since 1997, becomes one large photo gallery. Put an exhibition like this in such a scenic place, and you can bet the visitors will certainly get an eyeful.

The photo exhibits are by professional as well as amateur photographers who are from every continent, and around fifty countries. There are also works by many renowned Chinese and international photographers.

Zhang Guotian, art director of Pingyao Int'l Photography, said, "During the festival, we are mainly focusing on works about art, news, social life and nature."

One piece in particular that embodies this theme is called "Bring the Blue Sky Back." This work consists of many photos of different skies from all around the world. It might be over some mountains, above an ocean or plain, evoking a variety of emotions, reminding onlookers to protect their own sky.

Not surprisingly, the festival also creates a lot of buzz and excitement among the photographers and fans.

The Pingyao International Photography Festival will run until Saturday.
