China's annual national dance competition, the Lotus Awards, has wrapped up in the city of Erdos in the Inner Mongolia Autonomous Region.

Let's look at who shared the top honors at the awards.

More than 60 dance troupes from around the country attended the five-day competition.

In the contemporary dance category, a revolutionary themed work titled "Fathers" by the Nanjing Military Area Command Frontier Art Troupe shared the golden award for choreography with "Road Constructors", by a local art troupe from Erdos.

Elsewhere in the contemporary dance category, the golden award for performance was shared by "Looking at the Rain", by Guangzhou Military Area Command Political Department Soldiers' Art Troupe, and "Pleased by Rain", by the Air Force Political Department Art Troupe.

"Foggy Past" performed by a dance school affiliated with Shanghai Academy of Drama won a special jury award in the modern dance category.

Although the popularity of modern dance has grown rapidly in China, critics argue it has greater appeal to audiences abroad rather than at local competitions.

Furthermore, modern dance is still not a major at Chinese dance institutions.

This year's Lotus Awards marked the debut of individual awards within the modern and contemporary dance categories.

The individual awards will feature at the Lotus Awards every two years, and aim to encourage dancers to delve into current issues and creative choreography.
