Works of art that once adorned the British and European offices of former banking powerhouse Lehman Brothers will be auctioned off in London next month by the fallen financial giant's administrators, PriceWaterhouseCoopers.

The 300 lots are conservatively estimated to fetch between 1 million and 1.3 million pounds.

There are some important contemporary and old masterpieces, but it's the sign to the company's former offices in London's Canary Wharf financial district, that's causing all the buzz surrounding the sale.

Barry Gilbertson, partner of PriceWaterhouseCoopers, said, "I think there is loads of people who'd just love to have a little piece of the action, a little something, particularly a sign that say Lehman Brothers. Wouldn't that look great as a piece of art in your loft apartment?"

The auction will be held on a midweek lunchtime schedule, in order to allow financial workers from Europe, Asia, and America the chance to bid online.

sign will go on sale in the Christie's auction of Lehman Brothers Artwork
and Ephemera on Sept. 29.

The main sign is predicted to garner between 2,000 and 3,000 pounds. A plaque from the office opened by then Chancellor Gordon Brown, in 2004, is valued at between 1,000 and 1,500 pounds.

The diverse selection includes post-war and contemporary items, maritime pictures, and sporting pieces. The collection encompasses trends in artwork since the 19th Century.
