The musical season of one of China's top groups performing classical music, the China Philharmonic Orchestra has opened.
This years, the orchestra is celebrating its tenth season since it was founded in Beijing.
Under conductor Yu Long, and joined by well-known cellist Wang Jian, the China Philharmonic Orchestra has held an opening concert for the 2010 - 2011 season.
It performed Haydn's Cello Concerto in D Major and Tchaikovsky's Manfred Symphony.
The season will see a total of twenty eight performances including symphonies, operas, chamber music, and concerts for children.
Zhuang Yuming, MKTG director of China Philharmonic Orchestra, said, "We have a full schedule until 2013. The previous musical seasons have paved the way for us to have an international influence."
This season features world acclaimed cellist Yo-Yo Ma, Violinist Vadim Repin and pianist Lang Lang.
Wang Jiyan, secretary general of BJ Int'l Music Festival Art Committee, said, "A band's influence can be judged by the number of suites within its repertoire, and what kind of musicians they work with. In this case, China Philharmonic is above par."
In 2009, the China Philharmonic was listed by British Gramophone magazine as one of the top ten Symphony Orchestras in the world, a honor given for the band's vitality and a formidable progress.
