During the National Day holidays, many places are celebrating "golden week" in their own way. And there are plenty of stage productions and concerts on the way. So, grab a pencil and get ready to mark your calendar as we present our Coming Attractions for the month ahead.

It's been a year since Qianmen street at the heart of Beijing reopened to the public after large-scale renovation. And the first-ever Qianmen Historical Culture Festival aims to revive the prosperous scene of old Qianmen, with vendors hawking their merchandise along its alleys. The event runs from September 28th until October 15th and is prepared to welcome festival crowds. Now, whether you want to shop for some time honored brands, or taste some favorite Beijing snacks, taking a walk to Qianmen Street is certainly worth the trip.

Chengdu, the city famous for its spicy hot pot and a whole lot of assorted snacks, is serving up its annual International Food and Tourism Festival. The main venue of the event has been turned into a cavalcade of cuisine from all around the globe. It will be the event's first time since the city was honored as UNESCO's "World Capital of Cuisine." You could stay for the whole month-long festival in Chengdu and never run out of food specialties to taste.

As a birthday present to the country on National Day, the Daming Palace National Heritage Park opened on October 1st. And to help celebrate the week-long holiday, there will also be fashion shows from Iran, Italy, South Korea, Turkey, and Russia. These international fashion shows will give audiences plenty of stylistic variety.

China Intl Folk Art Festival Closing Ceremony

National Center for the Performing Arts

The China International Folk Art Festival was established in 1990. Since then, it has been held every three years. Now, for the 7th time, the festival continues to provide a platform for folk artists to learn from each other, and help enhance the friendship between people of different countries. On Oct.18th, the festival will come to an end with the closing ceremony at the NCPA.

The 5th Beijing Ninegates JAZZ Festival

The 5th Beijing Ninegates JAZZ Festival will be celebrated from Oct. 9th to the 18th. As the trademark of Jazz music in China, the event has explored many local talents over the past years. This year, for the first time ever, the Jazz Fest sets up at multiple venues. On Oct. 9th, they'll hold their opening ceremony at Changan Theater. So Jazz fans, get your ears ready for passion and variety.

Stage Drama: "Rhinoceros in Love"

Director Meng Jinghui has received many rewards for his productions from international art festivals. His 1999 drama "Rhinoceros in Love" has already made quite an impact around China. The story tells of a man who falls insanely in love with a woman. He is willing to do anything for her. If you want to do something special for your significant other, you might consider this moving theatre piece... with the funny name.

Royal Liverpool Philharmonic Orchestra

October 15

Shanghai Concert Hall

The Royal Liverpool Philharmonic Orchestra is one of the earliest performing ensembles in the world. Its first tour dates back to 1966. In conjunction with the World Expo, the orchestra will perform for the first time in Shanghai. The program features three types of music: classic, modern, and futuristic. And to honor their host country, the Orchestra has selected to perform a symphonic version of the traditional song "Jasmine Flower."

For those who remember the tall and handsome basketball captain Troy Bolton and the sweet and shy girl Gabriella Montez, the fabulously popular stage play "High School Musical" couldn't come soon enough.
