The final chapter of Hong Kong director Edward Lam's urban trilogy, "Great Expectations" will hit the stage of Poly Theater in Beijing soon. The dance theater piece is written by award-winning actress-director Sylvia Chang and features Golden Horse Award winner Angelica Lee.

The show explores the contemporary concerns of urbanites, apt representatives of their generation. The story is about the pursuit of happiness, fortune and other great expectations that are true to the spirit of the times.

And the cameo appearance of Angelica Lee adds a feminine touch to the show.

Angelica Lee, Lead Actress, said, "Lam's dance theater demands more from actors than the eponymous movie. It requires a lot of body language and the subtle control of voice to appeal to the audience."

"Great Expectations" is the third installment of Edward Lam's urban trilogy. The other two pieces are "Design for Living," which examines the harsh competition of the office politics, and "Man and Woman - War and Peace," which lauds the power of love.

Director Edward Lam said, "No matter you are, a man or a woman, the modern feeling of security is achieved through tangible things like your house or whatever. What my show is trying to do is examine various possibilities of what makes us 'modern' people."

Lam adds that expectation is the key word in his work.

"We've always had expectations for certain things. But at the same time we're afraid of being disappointed. I think we're living in an era where values are monetary, and everything we come across seems to tell us that we can own it. But in what way can we own it? Different people have different approaches and that's what I'm interested in." Edward Lam said.

Dance drama "Great Expectations" will be performed at Beijing Poly Theater in mid December.
