A normal show of Kunqu opera usually stenches hours in its entirety. While it could mean a tedious experience for today's theatre-goers to sit through a complete Kunqu play, the National Center for the Performing Arts in Beijing is set to break that convention.

"The Peony Pavilion", "The Romance of West Chamber", "The Palace of Eternity" and "Peach Blossom Fan" have been known as the four pillar works in the six-century-long history of Kunqu.

The most impressive excerpts of these four plays will be presented together in a two-hour-long show at the NCPA from December 24th to 27th.

The country's top Kunqu artists from different locations will share the limelight.

Wei Chunrong, Kunqu Artist, said, "Audiences can expect much more than just the beautiful singing and the gorgeous costumes featured in Kunqu. But I would suggest that you get some knowledge about the four plays before you come to our show. "
