1st Lu Xun essay prizes released

Lu Xun is one of the major Chinese writers of the 20th Century. Considered to be the founder of modern Chinese literature, he was a short story writer, editor, translator, critic, essayist and poet. To continue his sharp-minded tradition of essay writing and encourage followers, the fist national Lu Xun Essay competition was held in Lu Xun's hometown Shaoxing city of East China's Zhejiang Province on Tuesday.

The appraisal started from January with nearly 2800 essays participated the competition. Finally 14 articles stood out from among the entries. Beijing born writer Wang Qianrong was awarded the Special Prize, and the First Prize went to Le Peng.

An Lizhi, Writer of Award Winner, said, "Lu Xun is the most influential writer in China. His independent and free spirit is highly revered by us. Essays are also salutary voices on the society's harmonization."

More than 100 renowned essayists also participated in a thought-provoking seminar to discuss how to carry forward Lu Xun's style of "sympathetic engagement" and "ironic detachment" as well as his devotion to the nation and its people.
