The New Year celebration is on its way and as the days dwindle down your choices for activities intensifies. Over the weekend, the 3rd Beijing Light Festival kicked off its winter run.

Colorful fish lights welcome visitors to the main area of the festival at the Solana Shopping Compound.

The theme of this festival is "Happy Ocean". It consists of light art works that simulate ocean views all over the 130,000 square meters area in Solana.

The 19 Mediterranean style houses combine with the art works to make a visual spectacle. And music is played in every corner.

Having started in 2008, the Light Festival is now in its 3rd year. Visitors may be wondering if this year's light festival is environmentally-friendly. Well, the staff in charge says that the materials used to make these lights was selected to minimize the festivals energy consumption. Meanwhile, when the light festival comes, the staff will turn off the normal lighting as art works provide enough light.
