Mexicans enjoy Three Kings' Cake to celebrate New Year

Now off to Mexico where people are satisfying their sweet tooth as a way to celebrate the New Year. Thousands of Mexicans have gathered in Zocalo Square for the annual tradition of cutting the Three Kings' Cake.

Thousands of Mexicans gathered on Sunday to enjoy a piece of the country's tastiest traditions: a mammoth King Cake provided by the municipal government for the New Year and Three Kings Day.

The behemoth pastry measured a staggering 720 meters in length and some 90 centimeters wide.

Now in its fourth year, the King's Cake celebration in Mexico City's famed Zocalo Square honors the Three Kings' that visited the newborn Jesus when, it is believed, God's son was first revealed to the world in human form.

Participant, said, "Sometimes, we don't have enough money even for bread, so we are content to get a big piece or a small piece of the cake. I think it's great, that they do this each year and we don't lose the traditions of our country."

More than 2,000 bakers participated in preparing this year's tasty treat. The recipe called for enormous amounts of ingredients including more than 30,000 eggs, over 400 pounds of fruit and over 5,000 pounds of sugar.
