Preview of CCTV Spring Festival Gala in rehearsal

01-22-2011 09:01 BJT Special Report:2011 Spring Festival |

Avid audience members want to get a sneak peek of what's going on during rehearsals for the CCTV Spring Festival Gala. Next, we take a preview at some ethnic song and dance programs, and some children's programs that will grace the gala stage on Spring Festival eve.

The hall outside CCTV's No.1 studio is filled with performers dressed in various ethnic outfits. Song and dance numbers from five autonomous regions will be performed at the gala. Mongolian musicians will bring the horse fiddle; Uygur girls will ignite the stage with their passionate dancing; Zhuang people will dazzle the audience with their bright smiles and silver ornaments; and there will also be folk performances from a Tibetan troupe. But what they all have in common is the genuine flavor of their local ethnic culture.

Liu Gang, Director of Song & Dance, Spring Festival Gala, said, "Unlike previous years, ethnic dances were performed by professional dancers. This year, all performers are actual locals who can convey the real flavor of their nationalities."

And the kids in the audience are not neglected, as some of the performers are kids themselves. Children from Beijing's Blue Sky Kindergarten will be joined by two child stars to perform the song "Love Me, Then Hug Me," gold medal winner of the CCTV children's song contest.

The two child stars include singing star Zai Zai, and the famous Chinese child impersonator of Michael Jackson. They will lead eighty other little friends in performing the program.
