She Huo performance celebrates Spring Festival in Xining

She Huo, a carnival like celebration for the Spring Festival, is popular in Northwest China. In Qinghai province, a She Huo parade has been held in Xining, the capital city of Qinghai, featuring the region's characteristic stilt performances.

The annual She Huo celebrations took to the main streets of Xining on Monday.

The stilt performance, with children fixed up on high posts or platforms, is a unique cultural legacy of Qinhai province. The special She Huo tradition was originated in Qianhuying village, and has won the status as a national intangible heritage.

In Qinghai province, a She Huo parade has been held in Xining, the capital city of
Qinghai, featuring the region's characteristic stilt performances.

The high flying children play different roles from historical legends to well-known opera characters. The kid daredevils range from 5 to 9 years old. Among 2400 villagers, some 600 know the technique of fixing children performers to the stilts. And very early in the morning, villagers began the very demanding preparation, which entails both the courage of the kids, and the meticulous procedure that fixes the children up on the stilts in a way that will guarantee their safety.
