Local amateur performers of traditional folk dances have added to the festive mood in the northeast coastal city Dalian. They are making the most of this week before the Spring Festival celebration ends.

Lion and dragon dances, drum beating, land boats, and stilt walking... almost every kind of popular folk performance of northern China was seen in this parade. Though none of them are professionals, they are die-hard fans of these favorite art forms popular at festive celebrations or big occasions.

Some well-known figures from China's folk tales and ancient novels have come out off the page to join the effort and add some festive fun. Here's the "Monkey King", played by a woman over sixty years old.

Performer said, "We are making fun for the viewers and ourselves. It's good for our health."

Over 200 amateurs across the city, most of which are retirees, have come together to share their passion and joy with their community.
