As great as the Xianyang garden is... the most important attraction of the World Horticultural Park has to be the Chang'an Pagoda. Popular for the prized exhibits housed inside its steel exterior, the structure itself combines ancient culture with innovative technology. CCTV reporter Zhang Nini finds out how the iconic building stands out from and integrates with the expo park.

Towering 99 meters, the Chang'an Pagoda or the Pagoda of Eternal Peace, stood out as the single most important and the highest building inside the horticultural expo.

It's an architecture rooted in history, with technology at its core.

"The Horticultural expo is often regarded as the Olympics in botanical culture and science. This is where landscaping merges with culture and technology. Take the Chang'an Pagoda - it's architectural style dates back over one thousand years to the Tang Dynasty. But it's different from other ancient buildings, as it's made with steel, which is seismically resistant, recyclable, and causes little pollution to the environment. " CCTV Reporter Zhang Nini in Xi'an said.

Sixty five year old Zhang Jinqiu is the designer of Chang'an Pagoda. The architect is a household name in Xi'an, being the designer for several major city landmarks.

She advocates tradition but also believes that the pagoda should be at peace with its surrounding and appeal to a contemporary taste.

Zhang Jinqiu, Architect of China's Pagoda, said, "Even though we borrow from an ancient architectural style, the pagoda should not be too solemn to be at odds with the park. It should be light and delightful. So we use the honefinished steel with a soft tone, and we uses glasses to allow the light in. "

The Chang'an Pagoda is home to an exhibition of 10 most valuable cultural relics in Shaanxi.

Once displayed at the China Pavilion of the Shanghai World Expo, the Bronze Chariot No.1 is on loan from the Museum of Terracotta Army. It's the most prized exhibit among the ten, which collectively portray the ancient civilization in Shaanxi Province.
