Art exhibition held for Tsinghua centennial celebration

As part of Tsinghua University's centennial celebration, many stunning pieces created by alumni are on display at the National Museum of China.

Tsinghua University has long been known as a cradle for top scientists and technology entrepreneurs But a new exhibition aims to prove that it has also produced its fair share of artistic talents.

The display, which opened on Monday at the National Museum of China features 240 works, many of them award-winning pieces, created by 64 visual art professors in the 100-year-old college's academy of arts and design.

Styles include traditional Chinese ink paintings, oil paintings and sculptures.

Lu Xiaobo, V.P., Arts and Design Academy of Tsinghua University, said, "We are holding this art exhibition during Tsinghua University's centennial to tell the world about Tsinghua's development in the field of visual arts. It's an exhibition to show how the art masters thought as well as the current situation at the Tsinghua academy of arts and design."

Several paintings feature some of the most representative symbol on campus, such as the well-known lotus in the pond.

Tsinghua University has a long tradition of aesthetic education and opened its art academy after merging with the prestigious Central Academy of Arts and Design in 1999.

The college's exhibition, which runs until May 7th, is the first temporary show hosted by National Museum since its reopening on March the 1st.
