Escape noise in a Taiwan homestay

Tired of the hustle and bustle of modern life? Here comes a way to slow down. Some homes in Taiwan's JinGuaShi town have offered urbanites a place to escape from the fast-paced world.

Birds' singing, green scenery, and a gravel alley to lead every visitor to the homestay in the town Jinguashi. No better name than "Adagio" could match the peace that the cottage has provided.

Lin Tingfei, creator of Adagio Homestay in Taiwan, said, "I hope that visitors that stay here will slow down, and enjoy the living style, a slow tour, and slow eating. Then you'll find yourself. The concept is perfectly expressed through the musical term 'Adagio'."

Ten years ago, Lin Tingfei, a piano teacher quit her job for her dream to open a cafe with a field of lavender around. Lin teamed up with Zhan Huijun who gave up her job at a bank settled down in the town Jinguashi in New Taipei City with an ambition to build up a slow world.

Jinguashi, also known as Kinkaseki in Japanese, is noted for its historic gold and copper mines. Though the minerals have been depleted, the history has left its mark.

Majordomo, Adagio Homestay in Taiwan, said, "You might be scared by the 'dust' on the rice. It's to recall the old mining days. Toilsome miners rushed back home to eat in such a hurry that they didn't have a second to brush off the dust they carried in. So there was always some dust falling on the food. But don't worry; this dust in your bowl is actually bamboo carbon, which is eatable and good for your health."

The former mining town still attracts many visitors not only by its Gold Ecological Park, a potential World Heritage site in 2002, but more by its slow paced lifestyle.
