National Peking Opera Theater starts new tour

The arduous course of the Communist Party of China is told through the quintessential Chinese performing art form -- Peking Opera.

And to mark the 90th anniversary of the Party's founding, the National Peking Opera Theater has launched a nationwide tour that will cover nearly 30 Chinese cities.

The theatre has sent three troupes to perform in 28 cities in 12 provinces and autonomous regions. The programs cover the theater's most performed repertoires including "The Red Lantern" and "Taking Tiger Mountain by Strategy."

Song Guanlin, director of National Peking Opera Theater, said, "Our tour will cover some of the most important cities in the history of the Communist Party such as Jiaxing and Chongqing. We'll also come to cities that have lesser profound tradition of Peking Opera, such as Tongxiang and Wenzhou."

The cast comprises of nearly 200 performers; among them more than fifty are top-level performers recognized by the state. One of those is veteran artist Liu Changyu.

And to mark the 90th anniversary of the Party's founding, the National Peking Opera
Theater has launched a nationwide tour that will cover nearly 30 Chinese cities.

Liu Changyu, Peking Opera artist, said, "I was only 17 when I played the lead protagonist in "The Red Lantern". Now I am 71. These plays, these stories have left a lasting impression on me and influenced my whole life."

Besides the established artists, the theater also plans to give much needed exposure for the young actors and actresses.
