From June 13th through July 15th, the Beijing Center for the Arts is presenting "Designing Design". It's Japanese design guru Kenya Hara's first major solo show in China.

The display is an attempt to follow Kenya Hara's creative ideas and career, as well as a distinctive overview of the core of Japan's design industry.

The objective of the exhibition is to redefine the role of graphic design in the 21st century by exploring and dissecting Kenya Hara. The show's name, "Designing Design"comes from a phrase originally derived from Kenya Hara's idea of reviving the new graphic design. The exhibition tells the stories of nearly 40 Japanese designers in confronting the technological, artistic and cultural changes in the new century.

Kenya Hara, Japanese designer, said, "I think designing is something that can't be separated from our life and our emotion. When I'm doing my job, what I am concerned most with is the nature of the work. Only from the nature, can I get the inspiration."

Kenya Hara focuses more on green environmental protection than on a sense of simplicity in design and work production. Meanwhile the other internationally influential designers such as Kengo Kuma, Naoto Fukasawa and Shigeru Ban have also brought new materials and new experimental sci-tech designs, leading us to a greener, more harmonious, healthy and sustainable lifestyle.

Weng Ling, artistic director of Designing Design, said, "We can see through this work, it's like paper cutting. We can make any combination we want and turn it out to be all kinds of clothes. The bottom of this work is made of a special kind of material. We sow seeds on it and it may turn out to be a gorgeous garden. We can do it under any kind of lights. Thus, we can see this is a concept of environment protection and bring ourselves closer to nature."

A visitor said, "What impresses me most is that creativity is everywhere. As a teacher, I hope we can inspire and protect the creativity of our children."

"After visiting the exhibition, I think that everyone should find and create the beauty of our life," said a visitor.

The age of creativity has already been on the doormat when China's gigantic economy vehicle is racing on the fast lane. It is worth the effort to learn the way these Japanese designers think and work purely and earnestly in the face of such topics as "contemporary translation of traditions" and "how to generate productivity from design."
