Among the nationwide celebrations of the anniversary of the CPC's founding, Jiaxing in east China's Zhejiang Province boasts a unique preeminence. The city is precisely where, 90 years ago, the Communist Party of China was founded. On Thursday, a new memorial was opened in memory of the first National Congress of the Party.

The new memorial covers 2.73 hectares near Jiaxing's scenic lake Nanhu. It features more than 800 items from the first party members.

Nine decades ago, 13 individuals met and founded the Communist Party in a brick-and-wood building in the French concession area of Shanghai, though the meeting was eventually moved to a boat on Nanhu Lake.

The final agenda was carried out on the boat and the birth of the Party was declared there. Therefore, Jiaxing has been considered to be one of the most sacred places of Chinese revolution.

The Nanhu Revolutionary Memorial Hall was built in 1959 at a small island in the center of the lake. It later moved to the island's opposite bank and the construction funds were donated by Party members.

But it was still hampered by lack of space and outdated facilities.

The new building features modern architecture and state-of-the-art facilities, giving visitors a panorama of how the Communist Party was founded and how it has developed to today.
