The Battle of Tai'erzhuang, an important victory during the War Against the Japanese Invasion, made Tai'erzhuang a historic town and a household name across the Taiwan Straits.

Now, Shandong Province, where the town belongs, has begun a number of promotions to attract Taiwan tourists.

The old town of Tai'erzhuang was highlighted at a special conference held in Taipei's Agora Garden on Tuesday. The two-square-kilometer district of Tai'erZhuang sits near the only well-preserved hydraulic works on the Grand Canal.

Surrounded by water, Tai'erzhuang features classical bridges, an old water transport system, wetland parks, temples, museums, and the architecture of a bygone era.

About 20 major cities and 30 travel agencies from Shandong and Taiwan signed agreements on exchanging programs and visits, which are expected to bring about 20 thousand Taiwan visitors to Tai'erZhuang per year.
