Traditional Chinese paintings exhibited in historical city Xi'an

As a historical art and cultural center, Xi'an is also hosting a feast of traditional Chinese arts. But this is no ordinary folk art event. This time, it's on an unprecedented scale.

Themed "The Sun Rises from the Orient", the 5-day exhibition showcases more than 300 masterpieces of traditional Chinese paintings. The works range from masterpieces by the most celebrated contemporary artists, to new creations by emerging young artists.

The exhibition gives an account of the many social changes that have taken place in modern China, giving visitors insight into the mission of cultural inheritance generally shared by Chinese artists.

The event runs through August 1st at the Shaanxi Provincial Art Museum.
