The Shanghai Culture Square reopens to the public after reconstruction with an intriguing concert on Sunday. The performance, with a subtle touch of both traditional and modern music, opens the month-long Shanghai Summer Music Festival.

Throngs of people arrived in the Culture Theater of the Square some one hour before the show began, only to take a panoramic view of the newly-rebuilt venue.

The night of music opened with a cello concerto, under the baton of conductor Yu Long. The Shanghai Symphony Orchestra presented a string of numbers striding beyond classical boundaries, and into the realm of jazz and rock.

According to the Shanghai Symphony Orchestra, the Summer Music Festival this year features 14 performances, with tickets as low as 30 yuan, or less than five dollars.

The month-long Shanghai Summer Music Festival promises music buffs a wide variety of music styles and loads of acts.
