Venezuela dance troupe tour to China for 1st time

On Sunday, the National Dance Company of the Bolivarian Republic of Venezuela performed for the first time in China. The troupe presenting a sample of the cultural diversity of Venezuela expressed through dance, music and rhythms from its different regions and folk traditions.

The dancing skills of the members of the National Dance Company of Venezuela take the Chinese audience on a cultural geographic journey by staging various musical genres. There's the joropo, Calypso, parranda, and some from religious celebrations.

Alice Dotta, president of National Dance Company of Venezuela, said, "We want to show the multicultural and pluri-ethnic nature of Venezuela to the people of this distant and ancient country."

A dancer said, "I am wearing the costume for de 'mare mare karinha', the art form we are going to perform. It's has a headband and a very colorful outfit. Every Venezuelan art form you are going to see and enjoy today is as colorful as we are in our everyday life."

"It's quite common to see how Venezuelan artists are deeply involved in music, traditions, and how much we enjoy it. Like when you saw the musicians as they were playing, we move a lot, we laugh a lot, because we put our heart into what we do," said the musician.

On Sunday, the National Dance Company of the Bolivarian Republic of Venezuela performed for the first time in China.

The audience was deeply attracted by these performances, such as the "Joropo", which is the National dance of Venezuela. The dance has some variations depending on the region of the country. The caracoleao is the Joropo danced by Andean ancestors. The women and men dance around the room doing steps, in a kind of figure they call snaillike.

An audience member said, "I started to cry from the beginning, because this performance comes from my own country. I think I can't fall asleep tonight."

"I am so pleased to see this magnificent and wonderful show which is full of Latin passion. I think we should have more cultural interaction with Latin America," said an audience member.

The performance in Beijing is part of the cultural activities organized by the Embassy of Venezuela in China to celebrate the bicentennial of the country´s Independence.
