The annual Edinburgh Art Festival is well underway, which has turned the Scotland's capital into a sea of merriment and entertainment. But the Edinburgh Book Festival is also underway offering a quieter ambiance for some festival goers. Let's take a look.

Some may be a bit tired from many days of rapturous entertainment in Edinburgh. If so, they can find serenity at Charlotte Square Park on the west side of Princes Street where the Art Festival is taking place.

Nick Barley, director of Edinburgh Book Festival, said, "Edinburgh Book Festival is a major part of the Edinbourgh Art Festival. The book festival provides ideas, which serves as a backdrop, and source of inspiration for the performances on stage."

Being a younger member at the Edinburgh Art Festival, the Book event was established in 1983.

From August the 13th till the end of the month, some 800 writers from 40 countries will meet readers at the festival. And estimated 200-thousand guests will visit the event. It's a paradise for bookworms from around the world.

Children's book areas are set up exclusively for the little ones where they can stand face-to-face with their favorite writers, get their autographs and talk with them.

While the festival means everything for book lovers, it also functions as a starting point for some writers on their road to success.

Harry Potter series writer J.K. Rowling first introduced her work at the Edinburgh Book Festival. Prizes arranged for up-and-coming writers help them become more known to the public. And through a league joined by six book festivals around the world, the festival enables writers to connect with a wider audience.
