For children in Beijing, this summer holiday can be particularly dramatic. The first Children's Theatre Festival is offering a series of classic children's plays where kids can interact with the stars.

As part of the ongoing Children's Theatre Festival, a session of story telling was recently held at the National Library with Grandma Fang Jufen as the narrator.

The 82-year-old theater artist boasts an illustrious career of over 50 years, churning out a string of masterpieces of Chinese children's plays, such as "Newsboys" and "The Malan Flower."

The wheelchair hasn't held back the vim and vigor of the veteran stage actress. During the one-hour narration, she told two stories that were adapted from the Russian fairy tales.

Altogether three hundred children were invited to take part in the activity, including orphans, handicapped children as well as kids from economically disadvantaged families.

Altogether, the Children's Theater Festival will present 39 domestic and overseas children's plays made up of more than two-hundred performances. The children's theater portion will wrap on August 28th.
