Beijing is getting ready for one of its major annual music events. The capital's Music Festival is now in its 14th year. This year's repertoire is dedicated to the great Austrian composer, Gustav Mahler, on the centennial anniversary of his death.

This year's Beijing Music Festival will feature 18 compete works by Mahler, including his symphonic output, major vocal repertoire and a selection of early piano works.

Top-class musicians and orchestras will be part of the tribute. A dialogue between East and West that transcends time will take place. Chinese composer Ye Xiaogang reinterprets the same theme of Mahler's "Song of the Earth".

Yu Long, Musical Director of 14TH Beijing Music Festival, said, "Mahler's 'Song of the Earth' was inspired by the poetry of Tang Dynasty. So this time we'll witness a crossover of Ye Xiaogang's piece, a domestic perspective of the same theme. Hopefully this modern reinterpretation will sparkle. "

Organizers are stressing their low-price ticket policy to introduce classical music to more people. The price range is a modest 50 to 180 yuan. The program also features charity concerts and master classes. The Festival opens October 6th.
