As part of ongoing reforms within the culture industry, Ningxia Qingqiang Opera Theater merged with Yinchuan Qingqiang Opera Theater in May of this year.

The newly formed company now has more resources and is able to give more performances.

The average age of employees is 30. They are vigorous and have good moral. And that's a good thing, because as part of the new company, they must perform more than 500 times per year. They don't mind, of course, because under the new system, they're compensated accordingly.

Meanwhile, the government provides some subsidies and makes welfare payments to retired employees.

As cultural organizations are now charged with facing the market directly, 9 of Ningxia's 14 state-owned art troupes have made the transition to the private sector.

The rest will complete the task by year's end.
