The National Center for the Performing Arts recently held a press conference to announce how it would celebrate its coming 4th anniversary on December 22nd.

Starting three days ahead of the actual date, a special two-week series of performances will meet art lovers until the last day of 2011.

Every winter since 2007, the National Centre for the Performing Arts has dedicated a series of special programs to art lovers to celebrate its birthday. This year the celebration will kick off with the NCPA’s annual headliner, Puccini’s "Tosca" starring tenor Aquiles Machado and renowned local soprano Sun Xiuwei. Another critically acclaimed stage drama produced by NCPA, "Wangfujing" will also return to the stage for the first time since its premiere in April.

On its actual anniversary day of December 22nd, NPCA will hold an open day to all visitors who are interested in the building itself and its permanent exhibitions. The celebration will conclude on the last day of 2011 with a New Year Concert. Meanwhile, NCPA will launch an online Classical Music Channel, promoting classical music with the help from the online community and multimedia streaming.

The National Center for the Performing Arts recently held a press
conference to announce how it would celebrate its coming 4th anniversary
on December 22nd.

Li Zhixiang, director of Program Department, NCPA, said, "On the Classical Music Channel, we will introduce the background knowledge of NCPA’s ongoing repertoire, as well as some interesting behind-the-scene stories from the rehearsal room."

In the past four years, NCPA has been making efforts to lower the ticket price, as well as to introduce weekend concerts and classic art lectures to all walks of life, bridging the gap between high-end art forms and people’s daily routine.

Deng Yijiang, vice-president of NCPA

Deng Yijiang, vice-president of NCPA, said, "In the first year of running, the average ticket price of NCPA’s program is 5-hundred Yuan, now the number is 314 Yuan. In the past four years, 900-thousand people have come to NCPA and enjoyed the shows."

So far, NCPA has developed 16 performing seasons, as well as individual events for symphony and opera scenes. More than 3-thousand performances from art troupes around the world have hit the stage of NCPA. The original productions of operas and dramas have also received highly positive comments from global audiences and critics.
