It's less than three weeks to Christmas, but people around the world have already started preparing.

In Poland, thousands of men dressed as Santa Claus gathered for a children's charity event on Tuesday, while in Peru of South America, pastry chefs paid their tribute to the origin of Christmas with delicate chocolate miniatures.

Thousands of people dressed as Santa Claus on Tuesday and took part in a children's charity event in Poland. Young and old alike donned Santa's traditional red coat and hat, and gathered in the town of Szymbark, near Gdansk.

As well as spreading festive cheer, they collected books and presents for Polish children living in other eastern European countries. Some of the Santas sat at a long table and pledged "to remember the children not only on this day, but throughout the year, to provide assistance to children whenever they need it, to support parents, and provide joy and happiness."

Anonymous Santa Claus said, "The job of Santa Claus is to give away gifts. The child is happy and Santa is happy."

Heading to South America, a nativity scene with a difference went on show to the public in the Peruvian capital Lima on Tuesday. The traditional altarpiece, displayed in a hotel, is made entirely out of chocolate.

Paying respects to the origin of Christmas, the scene made of chocolate has taken a group of almost 20 pastry chefs, bakers, and an engineer, two months to create.

Valery Schroth, pastry chef, said, "It has more or less 80 kilos of chocolate. Bitter, white and milk chocolate. It has a height of 1.30 meters and is 1.90 meters wide. It's super big."

Peruvian altarpieces originated in Ayacucho of central Peru at the beginning of the 19th century. They are housed in a wooden box delicately painted and divided into compartments. Each one contains a religious scene usually featuring small ceramic figures.
