The weather is getting cold and although you may prefer a tropical vacation, many people enjoy spending time in the snow.

If you're up for it, get ready for some sledding or strolling among the ice sculptures at the Beijing Longtan Ice and Snow Carnival.

The annual two-month carnival benefits from the plummeting temperatures here in the capital. Visitors can slide along snowy trail while sitting on a sled, or enjoy themselves by playing a snow war.

The festival has also designed special areas where children can get close to little animals.

The festival lasts until mid-February.
