Painter Wu Qiang's personal Oil Painting Exhibition opened at the 798 Art Zone in Beijing over the weekend. At the exhibition, named "The Image of Spirit", two large-scale oil painting scrolls depicting the landscapes of Ordos in northern China's Inner Mongolia Autonomous Region have attracted many visitors.

Both of the paintings are very long - one is 27 meters long, and the other 28 meters. The idea is to depict the natural scenery of Ordos, while imbuing it with fertile imagination. And this gives the paintings characteristics of traditional Chinese painting.

Before Wu Qiang started painting, he read many historical documents. He also travelled a lot in Inner Mongolia to experience the terrain first hand.

Wu Qiang said, "Inner Mongolia has great landscape, the scenery there is amazing. I want to truthfully depict the landscape in my paintings."

Prof. Liu Jude, director of Wu Guanzhong Research Center, said, "These two pieces are kind of travelogues. The painter showed us what he had seen. And he transports the visitors to a world of imagination."

Other works by Wu created this year are also showcased at the 4-day exhibition. As a student of the master of art Wu Guanzhong, Wu Qiang said that the oil painting exhibition is also a tribute to his late teacher.
