Some of the biggest events at the show are sure to be its beauty contest and food competition -aiming to turn the event into a feast for both eyes and stomach.

The festival's fashion show kicked off Tuesday. With soft music, performers showed off some of their most beautiful traditional ethnic clothing.

An audience member said, "It is fantastic! The clothes from different nations are quite special and attractive. The clothes are so beautiful and fashionable."

The show is meant to share cultural and ethnic roots of the Lancang Mekong River Basin with award winning works designed to wow audiences.

But the exchange didn't end at fashion, and you can't share culture without sharing food. A cooking competition brought smiles to the faces of the lucky jurors.

Jiang Biao, juror, said, "Every ethnic dish has its own great taste and features. To be honest, it is really difficult to say which one is better. You can see from the scores that the dishes are not far off from each other. My personal opinion is that every dish has its own charming features."

Following the contest, competing dishes were auctioned off to hungry visitors eager to taste the meals for themselves.
