This is a season of big meals and family get-togethers. But if you find yourself fretting over what to serve guests, you might be interested in what's happening in Tianmen of Hubei Province.

More than 80 chefs from all over the country have put on a grand feast featuring mostly steamed foods. Let's go check it out.

A gigantic steamer cracks its lid, and the air fills with delicious smells. This steamer is one-and-a-half meters high, and 2.8 meters across. It holds an assortment of all the region's steaming styles - 168 dishes. And spectators can hardly wait to dig in.

A visitor said, "Delicious! It really suits our tastes. This is potato and taro steamed together, cooked in a traditional style."

But the smaller steamers, piled high with elaborate edibles, are also watering mouths. Here's steamed fish, and a dragon made of carrots and corn.

Chinese people have been steaming food for over four-and-a-half thousand years. They are traditionally meant for older family members. But are becoming more and more popular today among the health-conscious, and those looking to preserve more of a food's original flavor - especially for the chefs in Hubei.

A chef said, "This is boiled pigeon egg with honeycomb-like tripe. It will be finished soon. It is a common type of Tianmen steamed cuisine."

Originally, Tianmen steamed cuisine had three main steaming styles, but today's modern chefs count nine - welcome additions for food-lovers everywhere.
