Australia Post issues "Dragon Year" stamp

To celebrate the Year of the Dragon, Australia Post is issuing a Lunar New Year stamp this week. Other countries that have already issued Dragon stamps include France and New Zealand. CCTV correspondent Zhou Lei reports from Melbourne.

The stamp designs feature the Chinese character for dragon on the $1.80 stamp, and paper cut motifs on the 60 cent stamp. Both designs feature a gold foil overlay.

Dani Poon, "Dragon Year" stamp designer, said, "Actual stamps: Dragon are creatures with a lot of movements, a lot of power, So in the actual stamps, I try to give them big movements, so it's really alive, compared to other stamps like oxes are very quiet."

To celebrate the Year of the Dragon, Australia Post
is issuing a Lunar New Year stamp this week.

Dani Poon was born in Hong Kong and has been living in Australia for many years. She has already designed stamp series for four of the twelve Chinese zodiac signs. The dragon year stamp is the fifth. She is quite interested in how Chinese and Westerners see the animal.

Dani Poon said, "Actually when I was doing my story research, I was reading a lot of stories that western dragons and how they kill dragons I do find this is interesting and how Chinese see dragons. However, I think Chinese dragons are very auspicious animals and it's quite distinctive of western dragon."
